CCCO History
We would like to introduce you to an exciting musical
force in our community, the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra.
We are a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing
cultural enrichment to our community.
The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra performed regularly
to standing room only audiences at the Walnut Creek Civic
Arts Theater in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Many
Changes took place and the orchestra moved its home to
the Danville area where it became known as the Sinfonia
da Camera.
The 1987-88 season marked a new musical direction. We
changed our name back to the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra
and John Maltester was selected as the new music director.
Maestro combined with the East County Chamber Players
with the nucleus of the CCCO to make up today's orchestra.
Along with the new/old name, a revamped Board of Directors,
and a new Music Director, the CCCO chose to make Walnut
Creek our permanent home again. The Orchestra performed
concerts at the Grace Prebysterian Church in Walnut Creek
and at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.
The CCCO was invited to become the resident chamber
orchestra when the Regional Center for the Arts opened
its doors. The Subsequent performances have received
outstanding reviews. We presently share the RCA with
the Diablo Symphony, the California Symphony and the
Sierra Chamber Ensemble. Each group brings a different
type of programming and pricing to the area. The orchestra
is also the resident East County orchestra Performing
at the new LMC Recital Hall.
In 2007, the CCCO celebrated its 30th Anniversary. It continues its long tradition of bringing great music to the community.
